ESD protection zones, so-called EPA (Electrostatic Protected Area), offer effective protection against damage caused by electrostatic discharge. Why are ESD table mats so important?
Sensitive equipment such as computers, circuit boards or even data carriers can be damaged by overvoltages. Surge voltages are caused by simple friction, especially in very dry room air. The voltage caused by the employee can be transferred to electrical equipment. In this case a discharge occurs, which can release several hundred or even thousands of volts. Dissipative (dissipative) mats have a voltage-resistant resistance that causes a discharge. Ideally, a grounding cable is connected to the ESD table mat, through which electrical voltages are both absorbed and discharged via a special ESD grounding module. Our SafeGuard ESD table mats all comply with DIN EN 61340 and are also RoHS compliant - "Restriction of (the use of certain) Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic Equipment". The aim of this EC directive is to protect human health and the environment by avoiding six substances - heavy metals and brominated flame retardants/plasticizers. Especially with regard to the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment in an EPA, this directive is of particular importance.
