Why is ESD-safe component storage important?
Electronic components can be damaged by even small electrostatic discharges. For this reason, dissipative storage containers, tray racks and packaging are used to avoid voltage differences. Particularly sensitive semiconductors and SMD components must be protected during storage, transport and order picking.
What requirements apply to the storage of moisture-sensitive components?
MSD components must be stored dry in accordance with IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033 to prevent damage caused by moisture absorption. Dry storage cabinets, vacuum bags and humidity indicators are typical. Especially in reflow processes, trapped moisture and rapid heating can lead to delamination or so-called popcorning.
When are SMD coil holders used?
SMD coil holders are used in electronics production for the structured storage of tape and reel packaging. They improve material flow, component access and batch management. At the same time, ESD-capable systems protect sensitive components from electrostatic charge during component storage.
