Why are ESD floor coverings used in EPA areas?
ESD floor coverings reduce electrostatic charges caused by the movement of people and support the controlled dissipation of electrostatic voltages within the EPA zone. They are part of the overall personnel earthing system in electronics production, assembly and test bays.
What are the differences between conductive and dissipative ESD floor coverings?
Conductive floor coverings have very low resistance values and dissipate voltages quickly. Dissipative variants reduce electrostatic charges in a more controlled manner and are often used at ESD workstations and in electronics production.
Why are earthing straps used for ESD floor coverings?
ESD earthing straps electrically connect the floor covering to the earthing system of the EPA zone. This allows electrostatic voltages to be reliably and evenly dissipated across the entire floor surface. Proper earthing is crucial for the lasting protective effect of the flooring system.
What requirements apply to ESD floor coverings in accordance with DIN EN 61340-5-1?
ESD floor coverings must fulfil defined electrical resistance values and have permanently stable dissipation properties. Resilience, cleanability and compatibility with ESD footwear and personal earthing systems also play an important role.
Why is the combination of ESD flooring and ESD footwear important?
The controlled dissipation of electrostatic voltages only works in combination with dissipative flooring and suitable ESD footwear. This is the only way to create a complete personnel earthing system within the EPA zone.
