Why are ESD wristbands used?
ESD wristbands dissipate electrostatic voltages from the body to the earthing point in a controlled manner. They are one of the most important components of personal earthing in EPA areas and are used at assembly, testing and rework workstations.
What are the differences between fabric and metal wrist straps?
Fabric wristbands are comfortable to wear and are often used for longer working hours. Metal wristbands have robust contact surfaces and enable stable electrical connections in industrial applications.
Why is direct skin contact important for ESD wristbands?
Electrostatic charge can only be reliably dissipated if there is direct contact with the skin. Loose wristbands or insulating materials between the skin and the contact surface can impair the earthing function.
What role does the safety resistor play in ESD wristbands?
Integrated safety resistors limit the current flow between the person and the earthing system. This increases electrical safety in the workplace and at the same time enables controlled charge dissipation.
