What measurements are carried out in EPA zones?
Surface resistances, personal earthing, floor coverings and earthing systems are regularly tested in EPA zones. The aim of ESD measurement and testing technology is to check defined discharge values in accordance with DIN EN 61340-5-1. Typical measurements relate to table mats, ESD floors, wrist straps and ESD shoes.
Why do ESD workstations need to be tested regularly?
Wear, dirt or damaged components can change the electrical conductivity of workstations. Regular measurements help to recognise impermissible resistance values at an early stage and ensure protection against electrostatic discharges.
What is the significance of surface resistance for ESD materials?
The surface resistance determines how quickly electrostatic charges are dissipated via a material. Resistances that are too high can cause uncontrolled charging, while values that are too low can jeopardise sensitive components. This is why ESD materials are regularly tested using measurement technology.
