Materials used:

Leather

There are different types of leather, with suede being one of the most commonly used for sandals. It has a roughened surface, but it is not unpleasant, but velvety soft. The material is durable and has a high moisture absorption.

High-quality full-grain natural leather, also called smooth leather, offers the highest wearing comfort. It is breathable, durable, adapts to the shape of the foot and has a good insulating effect.

Nubuck leather is also used. The outside is sanded, which makes the leather resistant, more robust and durable. Through the sanding, the leather also gains the ability to better absorb leather grease - so it remains waterproof for a long time. The pleasant wearing comfort is supported by the high breathability.

Birko-Flor

This synthetic material is used especially by Birkenstock. It is particularly tear-resistant, easy to clean and proved skin-friendly.

Testing procedure:

Shoes are not designated as ESD shoes until they have undergone and passed certain tests. The electrical contact resistance according to EN61340-5-1 (verification) must be below 35 mOhm. The qualification of ESD footwear depends on the climate class (1 to 3) and EN61340-4-3 108 Ohm. The difference lies in the testing procedures themselves. For EN61340-4-3 metal balls are used inside the shoes on a metal plate, for EN61340-5-1 the shoe is worn by a human standing on a metal plate. ESD shoes are preconditioned for the desired climate class. The most important factor to consider is the relative humidity.
