Our founder Patrick Jacquelin is a born entrepreneur. His European family background has given him a close connection to silk making, which has taught him the highest respect for craftsmanship and material quality.
When he lived in London in the 1980s, many of his friends were artists, painters and sculptors. Often, conversations centered on how difficult it is to work in poor lighting. Around this time, Patrick rediscovered a forgotten technology: the blue-tinted daylight bulb. He presented it at trade shows for artists, where it was immediately well received. When he introduced it to people involved in needlework, the response was even more euphoric. The Daylight Company was born.
The journey from these early beginnings to an international company with a comprehensive range of specialized lights for different markets has been characterized by steady growth based on simple, unchanging principles. Patrick Jacquelin realized early on that most people who have a certain passion for their work have very specific visual requirements that are not met by conventional lighting solutions. So he began designing luminaires that met those specific needs, and three basic principles emerged on which the company's success was built.
First, it turned out that "lighting quality" means much more than just ensuring the right color temperature for good color rendering and contrast. Optimal brightness and the right light distribution play an equally important role.Second, the light had to be easily positioned to fall where it was needed. This, of course, looks different for an artist working at an easel than for a nail technician treating a customer's hands or an engineer inspecting a circuit board. And third, it has been shown that the more appealing a luminaire is, the more enjoyable it is to use.
By 1995, Daylight had established itself as a leading manufacturer of luminaires for the craft industry and began exporting to Europe. In the years that followed, the company developed luminaires for people with impaired vision, the health & beauty sector, and industry, and began distribution in the U.S. and Australia.True to its origins, the company opened up new markets by listening closely to what customers wanted. Patrick always says, "We're not geniuses who hide in a room and come up with a brilliant idea. We just know how to listen."Listening to customers and producing high quality luminaires with the right color temperature, distribution and brightness, the right ergonomics and attractive modern designs according to our three principles is the foundation on which all Daylight luminaires are developed. Today the company is an established global brand, recognized leader and innovator.
The inspection of mechanical and electrical components is of central importance when it comes to maintaining high quality standards. This is especially true in ESD-safe environments. Here, it is not only a matter of the right light intensity and color temperature, but also of easy alignment of the illumination and the right magnification so that even the finest details can be seen.
