Belzer - a Wuppertal tool tradition
Belzer was founded in 1884 in Cronenberg (now Wuppertal) as a tool export business and supplied mainly to the Nordic countries. From the 1920s onwards, the company produced its own spanners, pliers and screwdrivers made of vanadium steel. In the 1930s, Belzer already employed several hundred people and supplied specialised tools for the automotive, aviation and mechanical engineering industries. In 1988, DWU was taken over by the Swedish Bahco Group, which became part of the Sandvik Group in 1991. This is how Sandvik-Belzer came into being. Despite several takeovers, production initially remained in Cronenberg, even though the number of employees fell. In the mid-1990s, parts of production were relocated to Hasborn and later to Argentina. For many craftsmen, the Belzer brand still stands for quality and a long tradition of German craftsmanship - even though production and ownership have changed several times over the years.
